While it’s common to reach for pain medication when suffering from headache or migraines, for some people it may be helpful to see a Registered Massage Therapist. For many years, studies have linked massage therapy to headache and migraine relief.
Those who experience headaches or migraines can benefit from Massage Therapy treatment. Many patients report less frequent headaches, more restful sleep, and feel better overall, after Massage Therapy treatment. For some, migraines may be linked to a heightened stress response. Massage Therapy can be effective in changing the stress response and managing muscle tension in response to stress, thus, having a positive effect on managing migraines.
Lack of sleep or poor quality rest may be a contributing factor to headaches that can be disruptive to quality of life. To compound the issue, the headache/migraine itself can be the cause of sleeplessness. Regular Massage Therapy visits can help two-fold: reduce the frequency of headaches, help you to find sleep more easily and in turn improve the quality of sleep.
Our Massage Therapists will work with each patient to assess contributing factors and develop an individual treatment plan. Treatment plans may include: manual treatment techniques, active movement techniques, active rehabilitation, lifestyle changes, and education about pain management.
Finding the right RMT is crucial to the success of your treatment results; ideally someone who has experience working with migraine patients, someone you can trust and are comfortable with, and who has a deep skillset of treatment techniques.
